Udhaar khata and billing for kirana and general stores

Most of a kirana shop’s bookkeeping is one question asked forty times a day: how much does this customer owe? FastBilling answers it without a notebook.

Udhaar without the notebook

  • Add a customer once, with a name and a mobile number.
  • A sale on credit is a name and an amount. You do not have to list every packet unless you want to.
  • When they pay, record a receipt. The balance comes down by itself.
  • Each customer’s balance reads “to receive” with the amount. No columns to add up.
  • Their statement shows every purchase and every payment in order, so there is nothing to argue about at month-end.

A sale to someone who is not in your book

Not every customer has an account, and they should not need one. A cash sale to a walk-in is billed with their name on it and paid as it closes, so your list of parties stays the people who actually run a khata with you.

Take the money the way customers pay now

  • Cash and bank are kept as separate accounts, so the drawer and the bank each have their own running total.
  • Put your UPI ID in once and the bill carries a QR for the amount due.
  • Send a bill or a payment receipt as a link on WhatsApp.
  • The day book shows everything that happened today: sales, purchases, cash in and cash out.

It runs on the phone you already have

FastBilling installs from the browser onto an Android phone or an iPhone and opens like any other app. There is nothing to download from a store. On a computer it is a full keyboard billing screen, for a shop that has one at the counter.

Your suppliers are in the same book

The distributor who delivers on credit is a party too. Record what you bought and what you paid, and the same screen that shows what customers owe you shows what you owe him — “to pay”, with the amount.

What it does not do

No GST, no stock counting, no barcode scanning. FastBilling keeps accounts and makes bills; it will not tell you how many packets are left on the shelf.

What it costs

₹99 a month keeps the khata: parties, sales and purchases as a total, receipts, payments and the day book. ₹199 a month adds itemised bills and printing. The first 30 days are free, with no card.

Try it with your own parties

Thirty days free, no card. Add two or three parties and enter yesterday’s bills; that is enough to see whether it fits your counter.

Questions

Do I have to enter every item to record a sale?
No. A sale can be saved as just an amount against the customer’s name. Itemised bills, with each item, quantity and rate, are there if you want them.
Does it work without a computer?
Yes. It installs on an Android phone or an iPhone from the browser and runs as an app. A computer is optional.
Is there a Hindi version?
The help pages are available in Hindi. The app’s own screens are in English.
